Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Izzy Davis creates work that examines interactions and connections between humans and the natural world, specifically with trees. These explorations come directly from materials that are descended from trees. Wood, paper, and foraged tree-materials are used to make surfaces, pigments, and inks. The imagery of her paintings is informed from her ever growing tree catalog. She works with the grain and textures of surfaces to guide the marks and imagery of her paintings. Trees are simplified to create continuous forms that flow into each other, like how they do within forests.
